Stanley L. Brown, PT, CNMT

Owner, Neuromuscular Pain Relief Center


Stan received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Science/Math in 1977 from Judson College located in Elgin, IL. He participated in a non-degree Physical Therapy Assistant program in 1980 before receiving his Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Maryville College in St. Louis, MO in 1983.

He became a Certified Massage Therapist in 1992; received his National Certification in Therapeutic Massage and Body Work in 1993 and became a Certified Neuromuscular Therapist in 1994.

Stan has owned/operated his own practice since 1995. Throughout his professional career he has continued to learn specialized techniques to supplement his treatment skills. He believes in the synergistic healing power that results from combining multiple modalities. All of his protocols use functional assessment and include myofascial and trigger point release, neuromuscular therapy (NMT), myoskeletal alignment, myofascial stretching, cranio sacral therapy, Primal Reflex Release Technique (PRRT), Spinal Reflex Analysis (SRA), Pain Neutralization Technique (PNT), Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT), Facilitated Pathways Intervention (FPI) and SCENAR Therapy (Self-controlled Energo-Neuro Adaptive Response). Stan and Tracy are the only practitioners certified in Spinal Reflex Analysis (SRA) the State of Missouri. 

Stan specializes in a unique and highly effective non-surgical, non-drug approach to the relief of chronic pain, acute pain and dysfunction in the muscles and soft tissues. By identifying and treating underlying causes of muscular pain and by teaching self-care techniques, he helps patients achieve pain relief and prevent recurrence.
 

Tracy Maxfield, MFA, CNMT, NKT, SRA, LEAD IT

Owner, In Balance Neuromuscular Therapy

Tracy Maxfield has been working closely with Stan Brown since he became certified in Precision Neuromuscular Therapy (PNMT) in 2009.  He has been modeling Stan by studying Spinal Reflex Analysis (SRA), Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT), Body Talk (BT) and SCENAR Therapy (Self-controlled Energo-Neuro Adaptive Response.  He has also expanded his studies to include Precision Muscular Mobilization (PMM) and Active Isolated Stretching (AIS).  Tracy taught Kinesiology at the Professional Massage Training Center for 8 years where he later became a Licensed Massage Therapist.

Tracy is a valuable member of the clinic contributing to a unique team.  Stan and Tracy are the only practitioners certified in Spinal Reflex Analysis (SRA) in the State of Missouri.

Tracy's interest in bodywork stems from a long history in dance and Pilates.  He has an MFA in Modern Dance and, over ten years, excelled to Lead Instructor Trainer for Merrithew Health and Fitness specializing in STOTT PILATES.

Tracy is dedicated to relieve pain by incorporating all of his diverse techniques and maintain those changes through movement and specific exercise.

Anita Shikany, PT, GCS

Owner, Bring It Home Physical Therapy

Anita brings to the clinic 25 years of experience working as a PT.  She started her career in 1990 working with children with delayed development for Early Childhood Special Education with Springfield Public schools and worked with Stan in the early 90's in his clinic.  She has taken numerous classes, seminars and courses including manual therapy for the spine using the Mulligan conept, muscle energy, strain/counterstrain, assessment and treatment of neural tissue, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation and cranio-sacral therapy.  She has studied manual therapy for lumbopelvic dysfunctions, St. John neuromuscular therapy techniques and topics in neuroscience related to muscle control and development of movement and movement patterns.

In 2004 she received her certification in Functional Orthopedics from the Institute of Physical Art.  In recent years Anita has developed an interest in working with the aging adult.  She has worked as an independent contractor providing home health PT for a home health agency and learned first-hand how powerful therapy can be when applied in the client's home environment.  In 2016 she started Bring It Home Physical Therapy.  She provides education and intervention to help her clients stay safe at home and active in their community.

In 2011 she received her certification as Exercise Expert for the Aging Adult.  In 2016 she became a board certified Geratric Clinical Specialist in physical therapy.  Anita's plan for the future is to continue to learn and grow in her field of physical therapy.
